Hundreds of UOP students protested against 10% fee hike in admission fee. The students of all departments boycotted their classes. They staged a sit-in protest outside of voice-chancellor office. Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, Mutahidda Talba Mahaz Chairman Bilal Khan said that the members of all the unions and federations of students would continue their sit it till the fulfillment of their demands.
The students were seen demanding inquiry into irregularities in funds the government provides for providing various facilities to the students. They also demanded hostel accommodation and scholarships.
Situation turned intense when university administration involved police. Heavy police attacked the unarmed peaceful student protesters. Several students were injured and and more than 15 students were taken into custody. The injured students were shifted to the Khyber Teaching Hospital.
Manzoor Pashteen, the pioneer of PTM responded to the protest and slammed government
We strongly condemn Police brutality against students of Peshawar University. Protests against fee increase is an expected reaction from those who can’t afford to pay. We demand action against police responsible for this violence. Everyone has the right to protest #DaSangaAzadiDa

The former spokesperson for the KP Government had a word with the media about the incident as well
The former KP Government Spokesperson Shaukat Yousafzai said in a press conference that the students violated section 144. He said that the real issue was not the fee hike but something else. He said that the operation was being conducted against the illegal and outsiders living in the university. He also said that Government has ordered to release the arrested students and treatment of injured students.
In reply of Information Minister, an injured student Sajid Buneri said “Shaukat Yousafzai has forgot that his own party attacked the parliament, PTV, violated the same section 144 and created chaos.”
The other injured students, while talking to Media, said that they were protesting peacefully against the fee hike when police baton charged them.
Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto also condemned the use of force highlighted the fact that it’s a democratic right of the students to protest.
He said that the students of the Peshawar University were protesting for their rights. Strict action should be taken against those who tortured the protesting students. He also demanded the immediate release of the arrested students and better medical facilities for injured students.
The incident soon became a widespread topic of discussion on social media
Twitter reacted harshly to the police charge and the shameful act of barbarism of police. Students tweeted that they were protesting very peacefully but administration mishandled the situation by using force against unarmed protesters. Many people resembled the situation with Kashmir and Palestine violence.
this is brutality. If PTI had 124 days long Dharna (Not a Peaceful) in Isb then it was their Constitutional right but if Peshawar University students do a peaceful protest than force against them?#PeshawarUniversity #SaveUoP #NayaPakistan pic.twitter.com/AAozZ5KbKu

You increase Fee by almost 100% and than expect the students to remain silent. No never they have to speak for their right. You have to listen and accept their legitimate demands. But you opted to use of brutal force against them. Which is extremely condemnable. #SaveUop pic.twitter.com/iyIcgsSvCq

Education is a basic right & students of #PeshawarUniversity protesting against fee hike have valid demands as it bars many students from attaining higher education.
But govt & police seems to be least interested to listen to protestants’ demand!
Use of baton is feasible option! https://t.co/wLcwfATgCN
